While youbre enjoying the great outdoors this summer, itbs important to protect your skin and eyes from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) rays. Prolonged, consistent or repeated exposure to ultraviolet rays can lead to brown spots, age spots, red spots, wrinkles, and burning bb making you more susceptible to skin cancer. Luckily, protecting yourself from skin cancer isn’t difficult. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to be safe in the sun this summer season.
Lowering your risk of skin cancer
Sunscreen is a must. Protect your beautiful skin with a sunscreen that has a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. Reapply often!
Not all lenses are created equal. Your eyes are very susceptible to the sunbs harmful UVA and UVB rays, so be sure to protect them with sunglasses with UVA/UVB protection.
Sometimes more is more. Sun hats, long pants and long sleeves are very effective in protecting your skin while youbre enjoying outdoor activities.
Made in the shade. Itbs always a good idea to enjoy the shade as much as possible, so find an umbrella, hat, tree, or building when the sun is high in the sky and UV rays are the most intense.
Say no to tanning beds. Tanning beds and sun lamps significantly increase your chances of developing skin cancer. Avoid these altogether.
Check your skin early and often. Schedule an annual checkup with a dermatologist to help guard against skin cancers like melanoma. Early detection is key to successful skin cancer treatment.
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer; in fact, nearly half of U.S. cancer diagnoses are related to skin cancer. We all know the allure of a great summer tan, but we need to keep in mind that even a tan can be damaging to your skin. Take the necessary precautions to protect your skin this summer season and year round.
