Astera Radiation Oncology Treatments and Capabilities:
We use DIBH to help us deliver radiation therapy more safely to tumors near organs that move with breathing, such as the breast, lung, liver, and pancreas.
Brachytherapy enables us to place radioactive sources called “seeds” in or just next to a cancer tumor. We use two main types of brachytherapy: high dose rate (HDR) and low dose rate (LDR).
We use SpaceOAR Hydrogel in the treatment of prostate cancer to reduce radiation exposure to the surrounding tissue, in order to decrease side effects that could affect your quality of life.
Using a high-precision radiation targeting system, IMRT enables us to maximize the radiation delivered to tumors while minimizing damage to healthy tissue.
We use APBI to deliver focused radiation to the area of a lumpectomy. It’s been shown to reduce treatment time, and spares normal tissue and critical organs from unnecessary radiation exposure.
When we treat the patient while they are lying in a prone position, it enables us to direct a beam of radiation to the breast but not the chest, reducing radiation exposure to the heart and lungs.
Our doctors place radioactive seeds in the prostate gland to target cancer cells, while preserving healthy tissue. We’re not only experts in treating prostate cancer patients using this procedure – we pioneered its use more than two decades ago.
Available only at select centers in the U.S., our doctors use proton therapy to control the depth to which protons penetrate into the body, allowing us to focus the radiation beam on the tumor target.
We use two main types of radiation therapy to treat skin cancer: brachytherapy and external beam radiation. Both help us reduce pain and scarring while protecting healthy tissue.
We use SBRT to deliver high doses of radiation to tumors with extreme precision to treat early stage lung cancer as well as tumors of the spine, liver, adrenal glands, and other organs, in duration of just days rather than weeks.
Astera doctors have collectively treated thousands of patients using SRS, and we were among the first in New Jersey and Pennsylvania to begin using Brainlab-based stereotactic radiosurgery to enhance precision, with minimal side effects.
The TomoTherapy HI-ART treatment system is a unique, groundbreaking device. At Astera, our radiation oncologists use it to deliver image-guided, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IG-IMRT), using real-time CT scanning technology.
