Start with something about happiness and not just jump into cancer treatment. Connect this year’s International Day of Happiness theme to the blog concept.

Finding moments of happiness during cancer treatment may seem almost impossible, but if you take time for yourself and lean on others you will be able to find joy.

Lean on Your Support System

Sharing your fears or stressors with the people in your support system can allow you to feel a sense of relaxation. Your support system wants to be there to help you navigate your diagnosis and treatment. Leaning on your support system can give you a sense of ease and happiness.

Support groups can also be a place of joy for cancer patients, it allows you to bond with people who truly understand what you are going through.

Participate in Activities you Enjoy

This can mean something different for everyone, whatever brings you joy and happiness is what you should be spending your free time doing. Many people find that creative activities are a great outlet when you are going through something that is stressful, like painting, knitting, or drawing.

Others find themselves enjoying time in nature either alone or with family members. Don’t let cancer take away the things that bring you the most joy!

Set Goals & Celebrate Accomplishments

Many people can feel overwhelmed with treatment, so setting small or realistic goals is a great way to find pockets of happiness during treatment. This allows you to feel more motivated while also not pushing yourself too hard.

It is also essential to celebrate these accomplishments, no matter how small. Celebrating yourself and your accomplishments can be a great way to feel happiness in a time when you are struggling.

Care for Yourself

Self-care is a great way to bring happiness to yourself during treatment. Many people find that taking a bath, doing a face mask, or binge-watching a new show are great ways to relax your mind and feel at peace.

In the spirit of self-care, it is also important to highlight how important sleep is during cancer treatment!

If you have any questions about what you can or can not do during treatment, talk to your doctor!
