The Power of Support Groups

Going through cancer alone can be extremely challenging. Even with family and friends by your side, you can still feel like no one truly understands what you are going through.

Joining a support group with other people experiencing the same things as you can create a safe space and help you cope with cancer and its many challenges.

At Astera Cancer Care, our Social Workers host support and education groups to provide patients with a safe space to express their emotions and discuss treatment options. Even if you join a group and don’t feel comfortable at first, that is completely understandable. We can help you find the support group that fits your needs. Many support groups are virtual and allow you to attend with a loved one in the comfort of your own home.

Support groups can become a place where you can share your feelings, frustrations, and achievements without judgment. It also becomes a place to exchange advice and tips, ask questions, and provide hope.

At Astera Cancer Care, you’ll always have an entire team behind you dedicated to your unique needs. For more information on support groups, please contact Neshama Marcus, LMSW, Director of Social Work, at 732-853-1038 or neshama.marcus@asterahealthcare.org.
