August is National Wellness Month, a time to focus on the habits, routines, and self-care practices that support your overall well-being. For those living with cancer, wellness and self-care may look different than they did before a diagnosis, but they are more important now than ever.
At Astera Cancer Care, we believe comprehensive cancer care extends beyond treatments and appointments. Prioritizing your well-being means making space for both rest and the moments that bring you joy.
Give Yourself Permission to Rest
Rest feels different for everyone, and there's no right or wrong way to do it. Maybe it's an entire afternoon lost in a movie marathon at home, or maybe something quieter like an hour spent reading, a long nap, or a slow morning with coffee. Our care team sees firsthand how much rest can support recovery and everyday well-being, and none of it needs to be earned.
Treat Your Body to Some Pampering
It’s important to match your activity with your energy, as wellness can be physical. An easy way to care for your body is to go for a massage. It eases tension, calms the nervous system, and gives your body a real chance to reset. A long soak in the tub, a new skincare routine, and a few extra minutes of stretching before bed are all small acts of physical comfort that are encouraged for all.
Meditation is also great to include in your routine as it can lower stress, improve focus, and help regulate emotions. Apps like Calm or Headspace make it simple to start, even for someone who has never tried it before. A few quiet minutes of meditation before or after treatment can also help you feel more grounded and clear-headed.
Enjoy the Little Things
Indulging can be as simple as enjoying a favorite meal or dessert without any guilt attached. It can be twenty minutes sitting outside in the sun with nowhere else to be or calling a friend to talk, with no agenda beyond enjoying the conversation. These little things are a good reminder during Wellness Month that the small moments matter just as much as the big ones.
This National Wellness Month, we encourage you to take time for yourself, whether that means getting some extra rest, enjoying a favorite pastime, or simply doing something that helps you feel your best. Whatever wellness looks like for you, Astera Cancer Care is here to support you throughout every step of your journey.
